The Marquis Of The Vale Of Hell Had A Hand In It
While the perpetrator was Louvre employee and Italian nationalist Vincenzo Peruggia, the theft wasn’t a one-man job. The Mona Lisa encasing, at the time, tipped the scales at 200Ibs, and one gallery attendant couldn’t possibly go away with it.
Later on, however, a man calling himself The Marquis of the Vale of Hell told American reporter, on condition of secrecy, that Peruggia was only one man among three thieves he paid to snatch the timeless piece from the Louvre.
